COAT & GROOM TIPS

Use a natural bristle brush regularly and the need for bathing the dog will be minimal under normal conditions. There may be a great deal of undercoat on this breed. Yet some short coated Belgian Malinois have less undercoat.

The coat should be comparatively short, straight, hard enough to be weather resistant, with dense undercoat. It should be very short on the head, ears, and lower legs. The hair is somewhat longer around the neck where it forms a collarette, and on the tail and backs of the thighs. The coat should conform to the body without standing out or hanging down.

Don't forget to scissor any long hairs under the feet even with the pads, and trim any other stray hairs around the feet. It is not common on this breed. Leave the whiskers unless the dog owner requests them.

Use a force dryer to blow off excess water and you will save plenty of drying time.

MORE GROOMING TIPS FOR PROFESSIONALS

If it's shedding season you may get more shed that you think. We try to remove most of it before the bath. Coat conditioners that add body really work great on this breed.

Multi-Breed Books

These books contain little or no breed specific grooming information. They do provide very good to excellent general breed information. Of course, having pictures of the breed is a great help when grooming the breed compared to having nothing else.
