"Cooper" A friend of mine recommended the owner of Copper call me in helping to find him a new home. She had 5 five young children and no time for him. I had the perfect lady in mind, Judy. She had lost her male Shih Tzu approx 2 years prior. Judy still has 2 other pets, Trixie a Lhasa and Lil Bit a Pekingese. Every 3 weeks they came for a grooming and sure enough there would be a shih tzu in my shop that day for grooming. Judy would always go to them and say "One day, I will have another one." When the call came in about Copper I called her immediately. She was so excited and could not wait to come see him. I warned her that if she could not take him, not to come because she would fall in love. The second she walked in there was a connection. He melted in her arms and has not left them since. When they brought him to me, what a mess!! I could not believe his personality considering, what a doll!! Starting the grooming process I took the hair around his face off first. Judy asked that he not be shaved bald and wanted to save the top knot for a bow. I put him in the tub washed him a couple of times and conditioned him really good. I blew the hair away from the skin so that I could fit a #4 blade underneath. With clippers and slicing the matts open with scissors I was able to get it off. He was so good, very patient and let me do what I needed. I let him rest and took him home with me that night. He was so tired as you can see in the picture where he is passed out on my shoe. The next day, I scissor finish him and put his top knot bow in. He felt so good and Judy just loved the way he turned out. He is the talk of the neighborhood. She now has a photo album from start to finish as well. He has been with Judy now a few months and there is no separating them. We just got some disturbing news the other day. She was a little concerned the his urine was a bright yellow almost orange. When she took him into the vet they ran tests and he has had an infection that was never detected. The vet feels that because he was so matted underneath and never clean that there was an infection that has been there for a long time. It has gone into his kidneys. They started treatment, and the first round of antibiotics was not strong enough. They went to a stronger antibiotic and we have another week of that one before we will know if this round will cure it. If not, she will seek a second opinion, for now all of our fingers are crossed.
