Sheik is 5 years old Samoyed. He wasn't groomed ever before, his owner – as she told me when she picked him up – didn't find a proper brush for him when he was young and that is why she didn't brush him. The Sheik's owner came to me and said "I want you to get my dog a bath and short his coat for 2-3 cm, because he can't stand the summer heat." I touched him and was speechless. His coat was tangled to the skin, there was no chance to get a finger under the coat. I tried to talk to the lady about his condition, but she stopped me and refused any clipping. When I started to cut a centimetre after centimetre, finally showed in how poor condition he was! His skin was irritated with large open wounds over the body. I gave him gentle wash with medical shampoo, cleaned the hurts with disinfectant. It took me 6 hours to brush him that much that he started to look "normal." Finally I could cut 15 centimetres of too long coat to get the appearence his owner wanted. And what a sweetheart Sheik was during the grooming! Although his owner said he doesn't allow to be brushed or touched, he was standing still, licking my hand. I don't regret accepting this challenge, although his grooming blocked my work day completely. I finished that day late at 11 p.m. It was worth it!
