This toy Poodle, named "Ghost," came to me in very poor condition. He was badly matted all over and filthy dirty. The coat on his legs had "casted" and there was one large, urine-soaked mat around his belly. He truly was a pathetic sight. I showed the owners how tight the mats were and told them I would probably not be able to "save" any of their dog's coat, which had grass and seeds stuck in it and smelled dreadful. Ghost shivered and cowered on my grooming table. It took me about an hour to peel off the pelt that had formed around him. I had to remove thick mats around Ghost's ears, but some of his ears' hair and the top knot were salvageable. After a good double-shampooing, I soaked what little hair was left in conditioner and removed the dark debris that had built up around his eyes. There actually was a sweet little dog under all of that matted hair! After a quick blow-dry and some trimming-up, the true Poodle personality came out! Ghost became very relaxed and confident and started giving me little kisses! He no longer cowered on my grooming table. While we waited for the owners, he sat contentedly on my lap. Not only was Ghost appreciative of my efforts, the owners certainly were, too! They booked another appointment a few weeks away. Hopefully, Ghost will never have to suffer from such neglect again, so his true personality can shine all of the time.
