Daphne After seeing this dog on petfinder.com, my co-worker adopted this little brindle poodle mix from a rural county animal shelter where she was taken in as a stray with no known history. She named her Daphne. She brought her to Whiskers Resort where we both work so that I could give her a haircut. Daphne was in bad condition and smelled like shelter-dog. She had approximately 3 ½ inches of matted hair all over. It was obvious that she hadn’t been groomed in a very long time. I bathed her twice in straight Coat Handler shampoo and soaked her in straight Coat Handler conditioner for about 20 minutes. I used the K-9II high velocity dryer to separate the mats. My Les Poochs Emergency Matzapper was essential to brushing her out. After getting her half brushed out, I re-bathed, conditioned and high-velocity dried her again to loosen the rest of the stubborn mats. It took a long time before she was mat free. Every hour, I would give her a break time. She loved the attention. I am proud that after all the time and effort spent de-matting her, she had no brush burn marks anywhere. I gave her a traditional puppy cut with a clean face, poodle feet and a crest. She was happy to be mat free and on her way to a new home! |
