Oscar Oscar is a three year old, Yorkie Poo, that had a bad history with grooming, hence his long times between grooms. Sedation was owner and veterinarian recommended. Since he had no real problems with the bath, I opted to do the bath and dry on day one, and let him rest for the balance of the groom on a second day. I started by splitting the worst of the pelted areas, and removing what I could, then bathing. I let the demat product I like, sit on him a little longer than usual, and was pleased to see that most of the worst areas lifted off his skin as I dried him. Day two, he came in, and I started with a ten on his paws. I and was not surprised to find the owner knew her dog. He was by far the most aggressive dog about clippers I have ever seen. I can say, that if this dog was this bad sedated, I can't imagine him not sedated. I managed a 7 on the upper legs, and a 5 on most of the body. The head and ears I slowly opened up with Shears and thinners. His head and ear hair though matted, was very soft, and the mat comb, slowly and gently got though it. I lost a lot, but kept enough to make him look poodle-like. The face was a total hand scissor, as the clippers absolutely incensed this dog. This second session lasted over three hours, but the pride in this little dog does show after his groom. Quite the proud little soldier. He did manage to nail me once while I worked oh his head, but I think if we can keep him short and continued sedation, I could hand scissor him from now on, and help this owner keep him the way she really wants to. Her appreciation was overwhelming. |
