I would like to introduce you to Baby. He is a 4 year old Maltese that is a little ball of energy. Ironically, “Baby” is the victim of a baby. Once his parents had a child, his grooming needs have been put on the back burner, so much that his grandma actually drives over an hour away to get him and bring him to me. Sadly, she can only do this a couple of times a year, leaving Baby to become severely matted. As you can see, Baby’s condition is horrible. His fur was one solid mat that came off in a single pelt. I actually still have his pelt on hand to help educate other owners about matting on their pet. In this particular groom, Baby was shaved before his bath. Reluctantly, I have given up trying to save any length of coat on him, because I know he will just mat up faster at home. Baby’s spunky personality makes his grooming a challenge but it is rewarding to see him double his spunkiness once he is free of his furry cast. While I have yet to be successful in changing Baby’s grooming frequency, I am happy that I can at least get him feeling great a couple times a year. Even though Baby must suffer from time, he has helped other pets from his same fate by allowing me to educate their owners with his donated fur pelt. I'm sure if they could, the other doggies would thank Baby for showing their owners what can happen when a pet goes to long in between grooming with out proper brushing.
