"Why I Became a Groomer" or
"Why I Want to Become A Groomer"

Well it finally happened... I've went totally to the dogs!

My mother always said it would happen. You know your parents are always right. When I was a very little girl my mother said I always pretended I was a dog. I barked, growled, did doggie tricks and yes, even bit occasionally. As I grew so did my stuffed animal collection. They were always brushed, cut and adorned with hair bows and barrettes. I also began to mimic horses which is my other love. I also show clip horses and show miniatures which is a lot like showing dogs.

I've always had a menagerie of my own and was happiest when with my animals. My family has put up with a lot including, adoptions, rescues, purchases etc. My husband has even threatened the need to build an ark on occasion.

I went to nursing school as an adult with children and thought I could direct my energy to helping people but, what I found out was that people were not nearly as fun to work with and not nearly as grateful for your care. I finally decided to work as a bather for PETsMART to be closely involved with the care of animals. I was then given the opportunity to go to grooming school which, I just completed.

I am still in my internship but am loving the opportunity to grow and learn about the field that I feel I am suited for. I am already getting backaches, sore hands, bit at, growled and barked at, and you know what? I am loving every minute of it ! This is where I feel at home. I am no longer a square peg in a round hole. I love seeing the transformation of a dog on the table and the reaction of owners as they see how good their dog can look... I am not sorry I've gone to the dogs!

My next step... Cats!
