Why I Became a Pet Groomer My name is Marie and my story started 5 years ago. I took my Lhasa into have him groomed. To start out with the Gal that I made the Appointment with was not working the day that I took my dog in to be groomed. She decided to take the day off and let someone else fill in for her. Well, I was told I would be called when Shag was done. That never happened. I went to the clinic where he was in time to pick him up before they closed for the day. I walked past the busy front desk and walked back to the grooming area. I found my little boy cowering to the back of a cage, and was not clipped anything like I had asked for. The Groomers had all left for the day! I walked out of the clinic and never stopped to pay or tell anyone how upset I was. The really sad part is no one knew my dog was there or had even been taken out of there. That was the day I decided to never let anyone ever touch my dogs again. I studied everything I could get my hands on and worked with several groomers. First I started doing a few dogs of friends and loved every minute of what I was doing. I have always loved animals and have always wanted to work with them. At first I wanted to be a Vet but I was not willing to go through all the schooling. My shop is in my home and I work part time, I look forward to the days in my shop. I have invested in the best equipment to make things easier for me and the dogs. I play soothing music and treat every dog as if it were my own. They all get hugs and kisses and I try my hardest to make the dog look its very best and how their master wishes. I pride myself in the care I give and how each animal is treated. I want to make sure each visit with me is good memory. Sure, I have had some bad dogs, but I try to retrain these dogs so we can both be happy. I especially love to start out with a puppy and help it learn what grooming is all about. A fun trip where they get pampered and they look and feel GOOD when they go home! I love to see them strut like a proud peacock when Mom or Dad comes to pick them up, and their response of that’s just how I wanted it done! Each dog is a work of art and a labor of love. I don’t do 10 dogs a day, I take my time and enjoy each dogs company, and I make a good living doing what I love. I guess I am doing something right, I have not advertised a bit, and I have people that come from 125 miles away and book there appointments 9 months in advance, so they are assured being able to see me.
