The ASPCA and American Humane Association have designated the month of October as National Adopt A Shelter Dog Month. All of us at Wag'n Tails are asking Wag'n Tails owner for your support in grooming as many shelter dogs as we possibly can during October 2010.

According to the ASPCA and AHA, animal shelters in our country take in 5 to 7 million pets per year. The really heartbreaking statistic however is that of those 5 to 7 million, between 3 and 4 million are euthanized every year because they aren't adopted by a loving family. Because of our current economic problems in the US animal shelters have seen more and more pets being abandoned for financial reasons. Many shelters are overrun with pets being dropped off by loving parents that can't afford to care for them, but we can make a huge impact on adoptions if we all join together again this October.

Wag'n Tails shares your sadness with these numbers and we are asking you to join us in doing what we can to reduce the numbers of pets being put to death in shelters. All of us here at Wag'n Tails are dog lovers and it breaks our hearts to come to grips with these staggeringly high euthanasia statistics.

But we can make an even bigger difference this year. Once again we are asking you to join us and with your help we're sure we can!
Making a difference isn't all that difficult to do. It doesn't have to take much of your time. It doesn't have to cause a disruption in your very busy schedule. It's not that we're asking you to take the month off to groom shelter pets. If you can schedule one day a week, or one day during the entire month of October or just one appointment slot when you have it available to groom on of these shelter pets, you will have made a difference.

With all of our numbers, and we're close to 1500 owners out there now, we can make a large dent when you look at us as a group. In fact, if everyone were to groom just one shelter pet, we can nearly triple the number of pets we did last year! Imagine the impact we will have if each of us grooms more than that!

Once again this event will coincide with National Adopt a Dog Month this October with the goal of providing shelter dogs with free grooming to make them so adorable they'll get adopted into a warm and loving home where they belong.

A professional groom by a skilled pet stylist like yourself will do much, much more to get one of these pets adopted than a quick bath by a volunteer. You and your high level of expertise are the keys to getting them a home!

Wag'n Tails will hold up our end of the Mobile Grooming for a Cause event too. We have heavily publicized Mobile Grooming for a Cause and Adopt a Dog Month in October. We are hitting all the major media outlets all over the country as well as smaller, more specialized pet industry media.

Our founder, Dina Perry is committed to doing her part and will be grooming at Pet Refuge, a shelter in our area and she will be on the CBS Early Show September 2.

We will keep you informed of the Mobile Grooming for a Cause progress leading up to, and throughout October.

I know many of you already do your part on a regular basis and we commend you for that. You are special, we applaud your efforts and we hope that you'll join us this October.

We will email each of you that choose to participate a complete kit of instructions on how to get the attention of your local media outlets. This kit will include a fill-in-the-blank press release for you to send out and I suggest you contact your local CBS affiliate ASAP so you can piggy back on the Early Show on September 2nd with a story about you in your local market!

In early November, we'll send you the official, suitable for framing Certificate of Participation in Mobile Grooming for a Cause and the 2010 version of the Mobile Grooming for a Cause participation graphics for your van.

Last year, to provide some additional motivation, the client that groomed the most shelter dogs in October received a vacation for two in the Caribbean! Denise Davis and her husband Keith had a great time on us.
Denise won for grooming the most shelter dogs last October. As you can see, she had a pretty good time in the Caribbean!

Last year's stats: We had 82 of you participate and 533 shelter pets were groomed. Many of the participants reported adoptions on a bunch of those pets after they were groomed. The vast majority of the shelter pets they did were basic bath and brush grooms to boot so they didn't have to spend a lot of time sprucing them up. Please look at your schedule and get on board with us in this awesome event!

And don't forget the $5,000 GRAND PRIZE that will be awarded to the Wag'n Tails owner that grooms the most shelter pets in October!

So how do you participate? It's easy; just send a reply to this email with your name, your company name and the number of shelter dogs you plan to groom in October. If that's too much work then just call me instead. We're willing to do whatever it takes to get these pets more suitable for adoption!

Once a week or after you groom at a shelter, send me an email, fax or call with the number of dogs you groomed at each shelter. If you're aiming for the $5000.00 cash, include the shelter name, phone number and a contact person there. The contest will be on the honor system but we will verify the winner's grooms before we award the prize money.

To help us manage this process, please let us know that you will participate by Monday, September 27, 2010. You can still participate if you respond later than that date and you can still be in on the contest too but it will help us out if you respond as soon as you can.

When you agree, we will send you an email with further instructions and your press release kit for local media.

We also want to say that we know how busy each and every one of you are so if you can only groom just one shelter dog, it will make a difference. If you have an empty slot in your schedule one day or if you have a cancellation or a little bit of spare time please try to groom a shelter dog. All we ask is that you do what you can to help.
